More than fluff

Ever since I was little I wanted to create a positive news station - a station that only reported on stories that made people feel good. No drama, no controversy, only uplifting, inspirational, walk away feeling better about the world type of stories. I think this originated from turning on the news, and turning it off feeling deeply afraid. Afraid of the terrorists, afraid of the car robber, afraid of the internet predators, afraid of the weather, afraid of leaving my house to encounter whatever boogeyman might be waiting outside my door.  Just plain afraid.

Most news stations now do the obligatory "fluff" story about the fireman rescuing the cat in the tree, or the older woman who won the annual bingo tournament in the local town, but these aren't taken very seriously and certainly aren't the highlighted stories of the evening. I want this to change. I want you to join me in changing this. Good things are not nonsense! They have every right to be heard, and not only that, but I believe hearing them will make your life better. Why? Because of the law of attraction, like attracts like in this universe we live in and the more negative things we hear, the more negative things we're going to see, but what if we make a genuine effort to seek out positive things? We will start to see better things happening around us. Ever noticed how many station wagons are in your town? Probably not, unless you own one or are looking to buy one, but think about it as you're driving around and I guarantee you'll notice a lot more than you ever have before. This is about making a conscious decision to choose how you want to see and experience your life. And I want to experience good things. For one thing, it's a lot more fun. For another who decided that negative stories were the most important? Oh, you think they're more interesting? You think murder, and suicide are more fascinating? Maybe that's the way it seems right now, but I am going to figure out a way to make good things just as captivating. I know it can be done. I just have to play around with it for a bit.

What do I say to the people out there telling me I'm naive and that I can't just ignore what's going on in the world . They'll say "there are wars, and people starving, and dying of terrible diseases and something must be done about it! We must pay attention to these things or they will just get worse and worse!" I say to you: STOP! That is exactly what we don't have to do, by giving them our attention we are giving them our power. The more we talk about starving children the more children are going to be starving. What we need to talk about is the children that now have full bellies because of groups that have committed to making a difference. What we need to talk about are different cultures coming together and sharing in a joyful experience. What we need to talk about are the scientists who made a huge leap toward finding a cure for that terrible disease. We need to talk about the change and not the lack of change. I do not believe it is foolish to stop talking about the bad things, I believe it means I am helping out in my own way, by sending positive thoughts to the things that need them most. Mother Teresa said "I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there." Why? My guess is that she knew on some level that we needed to focus on the good, in order to get more good. Still not convinced? I think that's what the X on the top right of your screen is for :-)

I think people desperately want hope right now and there is a huge market for this kind of news reporting, but I also think people are worried about ratings and making money and how can they make money on something that won't grab people's attention? I'm going to find a way to prove to myself, and to whoever wants to join me, that good news stories are interesting and just waiting to be heard. Since I am working full time and going to school to get an MBA I don't know if I can effectively market a whole TV news program, but I'm pretty sure I can fit in some blog time. I'm not promising a post every day, I'm thinking at least every Sunday for now, but I am promising to post only positive news stories, and I am going to make them more than fluff. I will find a way.
